Carrie has been teaching piano and music theory to students of all ages and abilities for over 20 years. Studying under Stéphane Lemelin, she obtained a Bachelor of Music with Distinction from the University of Alberta in 2000.
Carrie’s sensitive approach allows her to meet the student where they are at. She structures lessons to suit each student’s specific learning outcomes and learning styles. She implements a well-rounded curriculum that includes technique, sight-reading, ear-training, as well as the art of musicality and expression in performance. Carrie has successfully taken beginners (as young as age four) through to completing Grade 10 RCM.
Carrie plays acoustic guitar and has worked as a performing songwriter (www.carrieday.com) for over 10 years. She has taught guitar, singing and songwriting to individuals and groups, in schools and communities in Edmonton and throughout Alberta. She coaches new songwriters in lyric writing, storytelling through song, song structure, melody, performance and how to engage with the audience.
Carrie is passionate about music and teaching brings her much joy. She is eager to instill in her students a love for music, while guiding them on their unique musical journey.
